we thought we would enjoy watching the lunar eclipse and blood moon while enjoying a warm fire on the Island View beach with friends (we had a weenie roast!). although we couldn’t see the moon until it was quite high in the sky, we enjoyed listening to the oyster catchers calling along the beach and the nightly calls of the Canada geese as they flew toward their evening nesting site in a nearby marsh.
as it became darker, we could see local water craft dock at their homes along the shores of the neighbouring islands. the lights along distant shorelines resembled a sparkly necklace that curved around the head of the peninsula. a passing cruiseship slowly made its way past the islands, it’s portholes all lit up and inviting. we stargazed and could see the outline of the milky way, which was very exciting for me as it is impossible to see more than a few stars when you live in the city.
