i had expected to see vast grasslands when in mongolia but wasn’t prepared for the exquisite meadows of wildflowers throughout the country. in some places, the flowers were so densely packed they formed a multi-coloured quilt over rolling meadows. it is impossible to capture the their beauty but here are a few samples of what i saw.
…”a rose by any other name would smell as sweet” wrote william shakespeare from romeo and juliette, 1600.
names have always fascinated me ever since i could remember. as we learn new languages we are also becoming familiar with new names. names with meanings such as “from a noble house”, “beloved”, “much-desired”, “life”, “melodious” and “prayer” are poetic. i discovered that my name, when translated from hebrew to hindi is मधु मक्खी which means “honey bee”. when i use my hindi name with new acquaintances, there is often a smile (followed by a questioning look possibly meaning ‘who would name their child like this’?) i happen to love honey bees!
what does your name mean?
